The Commonwealth Games is a multinational multi-event sport. Held every four years, it involves the elite athletes of the Common wealth of nations. Attendance at the Commonwealth Games is typically around 5,000 athletes. The Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) is the organisation that is responsible for the direction and control of the Commonwealth Games.The first such event, then known as the British Empire Games, was held in 1930 in Hamilton ,Ontario,Canada.The name changed to British Empire and CommonwealthOVERVIEWGames in 1954, to British Commonwealth Games in 1970 and assumed the current name of the Commonwealth Games in 1978.As well as many Olympics the Games also include some sports that are played mainly in Commonwealth countries, such as and lawnball rugby etc. Only six teams have attended every Commonwealth Games:Australia,Canada,England,New Zeland ,Scotland and Austtralia has been the highest scoring team for ten games,England for seven and Canada for one.India at Commonwealth GamesThe medal tallyAt the 2006 Commonwealth Games, India was fourth in the medal tally (repeating the fourth place achieved at the 2002 Commonwealth Games), and was fifth in the All-time tally of medals, with an overall total of 271 medals (102 Gold, 97 Silver and 72 Bronze).GalleryMaps
